The deployment of distributed computing for demand side management is in it’s early days.   While Linux appears to be the OS of choice for embedded computing in this space, it’s interesting to see Itron using Mono to leverage their .NET investments.   It will be interesting see if they get the performance they need on low-power/low-memory/low-cost systems typically deployed in these apps.    Also, it will be interesting to see if they get the reliability they need.    Could open up a path for lots of Windows/MSFT-based developers.
